IGNITE SPEECH COMPETITION

Last tuesday, along with the speech choir competition, the ignite speech competition was held.

All of the contestants are good when it comes to delivering their speeches and their powerpoint presentations are also great. That's why the judges really had a hard time picking who will be the ignite speaker winner.

Our representative is Charella Gonzalez. She really did great when it comes to delivering her speech. She is one the best speakers that present in that stage. Sadly she didn't won but even if she didn't won, we are still proud of her.

SPEECH CHOIR COMPETITION

Last tuesday, a contest was held and it is called the speech choir competition. Every SOM freshmen was part of the contestants. This contest was announced a month before the day itself so we had a lot of time preparing for it. But sadly, we had other things to do and to focus on so we dont have time to practice and do the props.

When we have free time, we make sure that we use it for practice. On our practices, we experience stress and a lot of emotions but we make sure to handle it as a team. That's why always cooperate with each other.

We are all nervous when our time of presentation came. We are the last to present. We somehow messed up the first part maybe because of the nervousness that we all felt. But we make sure that we do our best.

I am so happy when we are called to be the speech choir champion. I thought we are not part of the winners because we have mistakes. All our hardships, stress were all worth it. I am so happy and lucky to be part of that amazing block .

SOM PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION

Last monday, a contest was held for SOM students. It is the public speaking competition for freshmen students. Every block should have 6 representatives each. Every one of us did a persuasive speech in our public speaking class to see who are the six best speakers in every block. 

Our representatives practice and try their very best to deliver their speeches perfectly. Even if they are not competing yet, i'm already proud of my block mates because they are so brave in facing everyone's  fear which is public speaking. 

On that day of the contest, they are grouped into 3 groups with 9 participants and then in that 9 participants, 3 of them will be part of the final round which is being held in our auditorium. When they are delivering their speeches in the discussions rooms, the remaining students, which i'm part of, played games while waiting. We played speed speech which our representative won. We also played this kind of game that every block should sing many christmas songs. A block will lose if  they repeat other block's christmas song and if they run out of christmas songs. The game was fun and it became a lot more fun because we won. 

 After that, the host announce the contestants that will be part of the final round. Luckily, two of our representatives entered the final round. They deliver their speeches in the stage with us watching. The winners will be announced the next day along with the speech choir and ignite speech competition.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA

"THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA"

Last Wednesday we watched the musical play phantom of the opera. I heard that title a lot of times because it was very famous but I never really watch it cause i'm more into a real movie than musical plays. though I like to watch movies which involves music and singing  but not a play.

But when the phantom of the opera starts playing I suddenly got interested because they were all good both in acting and singing. Actually they are more than good, they are excellent. At first I didn’t understand the flow of the story but as I understand it, it made me like the play. 

The play was really good and I really like the story. I also love both of the main characters which is the phantom and Kristine. Especially phantom because he is good in acting and his voice was awesome. He got the kind of voice which you just like to listen to everyday and you’ll never get tired of.

I also like their songs in the play. After we watched it, all their songs are stuck in our heads. When I got home ,I immediately search for their songs and listen to it. It was beautiful.

At the end of the play, the woman who first played the role of Kristine was there, surprising the audience, including me. I was stunned when she sing. It seems like her voice never gets old because it was still beautiful as ever, the former phantom was also there and he was also good.

All in all, the characters played their roles excellently and the play was well executed. It made us feel roller coaster emotions that we enjoyed the whole time we are watching it. Now, i'm a big fan of this play. 

SPEAK SENSE

Last friday, an event was held on our school. It was a public speaking contest competition for highschool students. That event was held on our auditorium. We, the som freshmen were the audience.

There are many contestants from different schools and i can say they were all presentable and look like they are ready to deliver their speeches excellently. And when each of them delivered their speeches i was surprised because they were all good. They are even better than us when it comes to speaking in public. Some of them experience mental block and forgot some of their lines but they manage to remember it again. Its okay to experience this because i admit that i also forgot my lines when speaking in public mainly because of nervousness. beause that is our worst enemy when it comes to public speaking. It can make you forgot your lines and make you think of negative thoughts that may happen when you speak.

Also on their question and answer part, they are also great. They can easily think of answers for the judge' s questions. And i salute them for that because we all know that is hard.

I was amazed by this girl who are one of the contestants. I cant remember her name just her face and how the way she deliver her speech. She was so good in speaking. She didnt forget any of her lines, she also put feelings in everything she said that is why we are all captured by her speech. Even the judges were impressed by her skills. She really deserved to win the contest.

Just be confident and trust yourself when speaking in public. We dont know maybe one of us can be one of those great speakers someday.

Plagiarism

What is plagiarism?

It means copying of one's work without their permission. Admit it or not we all do it even if we dont know. When we need home works we always just search in the internet and copy whatever is written there not minding to acknowledge the person who really did the work. Until now some of us do it right?

plagiarism is an act of stealing. Because you are taking someone's property without their permission espacially secretly or by force. And that is very unethical thing to do. Unfortunately, lots of teenagers and adults think that plagiarizing the work of others is okay but its not.

We should be aware that plagiarism is a crime. Lots of people today have been accused for that crime. And they've been put to jail. They even lose a lot of opportunities in life just because someone finds out that their work is plagiarized. If you dont want to be like those people, stop plagiarizing works of other. Have originality.


before you act because everything you do has a result. Now, it is up to us if we want to lead in making the difference.

MEDIA LITERACY

Last Wednesday ,  a seminar was held in our auditorium and it was about media literacy.

The first speaker which is Ms. Edmallyne Remillano discuss about how to write story effectively. Ms. Remillano is a head writer and talent association of GMA network. Her speech about journalism was interesting and made a big impact on us, audience. She said that journalism is about making the important interesting and the interesting relevant. She taught us many ways on how to write a story and how she manage to make one.

The second speaker is Ms. Jan Meynard Nualla and she discuss about society blaming the internet. She also discuss about how we should not blame the internet for what is happening to our lives instead blame ourselves. She also tell us to always be aware on what is happening on our society and not only giving attention to things that entertain us.

The last speaker is Ms. Lian Nami Buan. She discuss about the role of media and advocacy journalism. She also discuss their work and the process on how they do it.

All the speakers are really great and they really inspire all the people listening to them that day . If someone would ask me if i would recommend this seminar to others i would say, why not?

THE CREATIVE WRITER

Myrna Peña-Reyes is a Filipina poet who was born in 1938 to schoolteacher parents in Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental. Her family spent the World War II years in the jungles of Mindanao where her mother passed away when she was only four years old. After the war, her family (including a younger brother) moved to Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental where she completed her elementary, high school, and college education. 

She holds an MFA in creative writing from the University of Oregon where she met her husband, poet William T. Sweet. For several years, she was on the faculty of the Department of English and Literature at Silliman University and the Silliman National Writers Workshop. In Edugene, Oregon, where she and her husband now reside, she has taught college classes; was co-owner of a grocery store and a bookstore; worked in an office supplies shop;and is presently a book buyer for a bookstore. 

She won the Oregon literary fellowship for poetry from the states literary arts organization. Her two books of poetry are the river singing stone and almost home.

This is Myrna's new poetry collection entitled "memory's mercy". 

FOOD IS LOVE

We all love food. That's a fact because no one can resist them right?

Food is to be savored ; but there is something in them that is meant to be appreciated before they serve their purpose. I love to eat, but first i like to entice my senses with their color , aroma, and texture. And here,  i will share some of my favorite foods of all time. 

I love apple pie.  An apple pie is a fruit pie in which the principle ingredient is of course, apple. I don't know why but i just loved it. I'm really not into pies but apple pie is an exemption. Maybe because i love apple. There is something in it that makes me go crazy when i eat it especially when its served with whipped cream or ice cream on it .

Also one of my favorite food of all time is ice cream. An ice cream is a frozen dessert usually made from dairy products like milk and cream and often combined with fruits or other ingredients and flavors. I know almost all of us really love it because no one can resist them. Children and even adults love it. Especially me because ice cream is like my best friend. Because it comforts me all the time. I don't have a specific favorite flavor because i eat them all. 

Admit it or not, we all scream for ice cream!

If you don't like these foods, hope you try them because they are really delicious and it will not leave you any regrets at all.  :)

SOM WEEK 2015

SOM WEEK 2015

Last october 26, 2015 the school of management prepare something for every student that belong in that school. We have many events like sports fest, games, quiz bees, movie marathons , Mr. and Mrs. SOM pageant, and the som night. 

Every event we had was wonderful and fun. We get excited cheering for our chosen teams in the sports fest, We also join games that is fun and we really enjoyed it. I myself even join a game called "TMysteries" and luckily, we won the first place! We felt nervous at first because we thought we will not finish the task but because of our unity as a team, we are able to solve the mystery case. It was so overwhelming. 

I also joined the quiz bee but i didnt make it to the final round. Im still happy because of the experience and also i gained more friends. I also attended the SOM night and it was fun. I just enjoyed the whole night with my friends and my classmates. It was so worth it. I also watch the SOM pageant and i enjoyed it. The candidates were all good and deserving of the title but unfortunately, one should stand out. Congratulations to all the candidates that joined the said contest.

The SOM week was really fun. I enjoyed the whole week with full of fun and enjoyable events. I hope there will be a lot more events like this to happen in my college life. It was truly a week to remember. 

ANTI- SMOKING CAMPAIGN

CIGARETTE SMOKING IS BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH

 

 

Everyday we encounter someone who smokes. We see them at every place like malls, in our streets, and even in our house. Almost half of our population smokes. But why? What is everyone so addicted to cigarettes?

 

According to my research,  Smoking is a practice in which a substance is burned and the resulting smoke breathed in to be tasted and absorbed into the bloodstream. Most commonly the substance is the dried leaves of the tobacco plant which have been rolled into a small square of rice paper to create a small, round cylinder called a "cigarette". Cigarette has a drug called nicotine and this substance is what makes everyone so addicted about. Smoking has many benefits for people. It can relieve your stress, It can somewhat give you energy and just take away all your problems. But despite all this benefits we gain from it, little did we know that this addicting thing can lead to some diseases and worse, death.

 

Smoking is not good for us so we should stop using it. If we want to relieve our stress, we can do something different but not smoking. For those who cant stop using it, its not too late to change. We can lessen the use of cigarette slowly until we are not using it anymore. Because if we continue to smoke, we can die early. And we don't want that right?

 

 

Everyone of us should make an act. Because we are the ones who will experience the consequence if we do nothing. So start making a change now because its not too late. Stop smoking and live a healthy lifestyle.

 



6. PARASYTE MOVIE

PARASYTE MOVIE

 

This live action movie is about a teenage boy who is plagued by an unknown parasite and his task is to get rid of it and also find other people who became victims of this parasite. But little did we know that his parasite can also be a good being.

 

The movie is not just about how the boy killed every parasite that invade human being but also it is a story of an everlasting love of a mother. Since the boy was a kid, his mother always save him from everything. His mother is willing to sacrifice her own self just for his child. And as the boy grows up as a teenager, his relationship to his mother slowly fades. And even if the mother is invaded by the parasyte, her love for her son is still there.

 

 

I love the story because it tackles about how the mother truly love her child despite of their situation and problems their facing. And its also about the friendship between the boy and the parasite. It just shows that even if your different, if you understand each other, you can be friends. Their friendship is the one who save them and help them to go through their problems.  And that's what I love about the movie.

 

Even if the story is not close to reality it still makes us scared about them and that's what makes the story cool. This movie deserves to be loved by many.

 

 

 







"ANG TATAY MONG KALBO"

"TATAY MONG KALBO"

Last friday we watched a play called "Ang tatay mong kalbo".  Honestly i dont have any idea what is the play about. But it made me interested  so i continue to watch it. And also because i like watching plays and see how actors act proffesionally.

The play starts with a couple named Mr. and Mrs. Santos. They are at their house talking about random things. The couple are actually funny and sweet at the same time. They also have a maid named maria. And he is also funny. Then after a few minutes some visitors arrived. They are Mr. and Mrs. Reyes. These couple were unusual because they are acting crazy. They act like they dont know each other.  They make us confused and happy at the same time. Then later on, they are joined by a local fire chief which is also maria's love interest. And they really make us laugh because of it. On the whole act, the two families just argues in meaningless reasons and telling stories to each other.

But even if the play was like that, it was good and the actors were good also. I just dont get why it is entitled "ang tatay mong kalbo" cause i dont see any connections. As i observed in their play, as the fire chief is about to leave he asks where is  "tatay mong kalbo" and Mrs. Santos just replied that he is still styling his hair the same way. After that scene i still dont get it.

In our wolrd literature subject, i learned that this play is part of the genre "theater of the absurd" Its like a parody of a performance thats why its like that. Its like the author wants a new beginning every end of the play because the story just repeat but with different characters. Its a cool idea but also very confusing.

Overall, i really enjoyed watching the play and if i get another chance, ill repeat watching it over and over again.

TURN LEFT, TURN RIGHT

I really dont believe in destiny. For me it was nothing but part of other people's imagination about love. Like since you were born you already have your soulmates that you will meet eventually and then live happily ever after. I dont believe that. Your destiny is not planned. It is you who will make it cause it is the result of your choices and decisions in life.

The movie is about two persons who always pass by each other but never get a chance to meet . Just like parallel lines. They cross the same street everyday, they hang out on the same place, they ride on the same train, they meet same people without knowing. They even lived next door to each other. But they never knew. They also have the same situation in life. They both lack money, they have no friends and their talents were never noticed. The boy was a musician and the girl was a writer.

One day they finally met. It was the same scenario 13 years ago when they first met at a camp. The girl's papers full of stories were soaked in the water. And the boy helped her get it. They both liked each other since then but never had a chance to start a conversation. They didnt even get each other's number. Its like fate is playing with them.

Days go by, they still dont meet each other. They met new people that also make their situation worse. But as the film says, "Even parallel lines might cross paths someday". At the end of the film they finally get a chance to be together again and it makes me happy. Because after all those struggles to find each other, After all those years they are not beside each other, finally they met. And this time, they will never turn the opposite ways again.

CHEERS AND CHANTS COMPETITION

Last week we joined a competition called cheers and chants. It is a project for our english class. The objective of it is to create an original cheer for your course. At first, we cant decide on what cheer we will do for the upcoming competition. But as days go by,  we slowly come up with different suggestions for it.

The week before the competition, we spent our free time by practicing for it. But, just like any other students that work as a group, we find a hard time on practicing because of the problems we encounter. Most of us get tired and hungry. Some of us get annoyed and stressed. But, because our block is united as one, we did it. We have enough practice before the competion. And we even get enough time to prepare for our props and costumes.

On the day of the competition, we were all scared and nervous to perform and also to see other performance of other candidates. Luckily, we are the last one to perform. We get to see the presentations of other contestants. They were all good and deserving to win the competition. But we will not let them beat us. Each of us give our very best in our performance. But just like any other competitions, one will definitely stand out.

We won the first place in the cheers and chants competition!! It was so overwhelming that all our efforts was all worth it. Even if we are not the champion, in our hearts we are the best because we learn to become not just a group but a united family. And that's what makes us the champion.

"Bayan o Sarili?"

"HENERAL LUNA"

When I first saw the movie’s trailer I was amazed by how the director made the story of Heneral Luna educational at the same time enjoyable to watch. And then luckily, the film was introduced to our school last august. I was so happy that they gave us the chance to watch a preview of the film. It was just so amazing. It will bring you back to the past and teach you many lessons. It will also make you understand more of Heneral Luna and his characteristics. Like how much he love our country to the point that he is willing to sacrifice himself and other traits that make him stand out to everyone.

We even got a chance to personally meet the director of this film, Mr. Jerrold Tarog and Mr. John Arcilla, Heneral luna himself. I must say that they are very kind and approachable. They also answer willingly all the questions we have about their film and they also accept suggestions to improve their skills in the field of acting.

Last week, I was able to watch the movie along with my family. At first they are shock because I got interested in the movie cause they know that Im not much into historical films like that. Yes its true but after I watch the preview of the film, it changes my mind. I got really interested and I was overwhelmed by how the actors made a good job in portraying their roles. Even my family was shock about how the film went really good and how it affects people that watched it. The movie was not boring but it was kind of funny because the director makes sure that even the generation today will relate to it and it was a very brilliant idea.

I do not regret watching this beautiful film.  I heard from the news that it reaches P180M mark in the box office as of now and I must say that the film truly deserve it especially the people behind the greatness of this movie.

WELCOME TO ANDRAE'S BLOG!!

Hi everyone! Welcome to my blog! Before anything else, I would like to introduce myself to all of you who are reading this by now. I am Nicole Andrae H. Recuenco, 16 years of age. I prefer to be called to be called “andrae” because I like it better than my other name even if sometimes I get to be mistaken as a guy. I’m having my birthday this coming March 15. I’m living in pasig city for 6 years now with my mom and my aunt. I am a former student at La Consolacion College in Pasig also. I spent my elementary and highschool years there. I even received a loyalty award for studying there for almost 10 years. Right now im starting my college life in Asia Pacific College in Magallanes. Im currently on my second term now and I honestly say that it was quite difficult and challenging because everything is all about English.

So lets talk about some personal things about me. Im kinda shy when it comes to meeting new people and I feel somewhat awkward hanging out with them especially if they’re not same as my age. Im not that good in socializing with others. But if we begin to become close to each other you will see my different personality and you will realize that your first impression to me is not true. As a friend, I am trustworthy and loyal. I make sure that im always there for them when they need to me or not. When it comes to my family, I am kind of shy also especially when im with the elders but when im with my cousins I am a whole lot different person cause I treat them as my siblings because I don’t have one. Im glad  because they didn’t fail  to make me feel like their own sister that’s why im happy when im with them.

My interests includes books. My favorite genres are mystery and adventure with a bit of romance and humor. I don’t like stories with sad or tragic ending because it also make me sad and I don’t want that feeling. Some of my favorite authors are John Green and Nicholas Sparks who are both good in writing stories that will make you laugh and cry at the same time. I also like J.K Rowling cause she’s good in writing stories that are full of adventure.

My hobbies are reading books and watching movies. I don’t have a specific type of movie genre that I like cause I just watch movies that catches my interest.

Since I was a kid, I always dream to become a flight attendant and when I get rich and successful, I also want to buy my own plane. I like it because I want to travel around the world and see every wonderful attractions that our world have. My dream destinations are New York because I want to visit time square , Sweden because I want to visit my bestfriend who is currently living there, and the whole continent of Europe cause I heard that its so beautiful there and it has many attractions to visit and experience. That's why i will study hard and do my very best to accomplish all my goals and achieve my dreams in life.
